Welcoming address of the Ambassador

Welcome to the website of the Belgian embassy in Kigali

This site is for all the users of services of the Belgian embassy in Kigali, Rwanda and for all interesting in knowing more about Belgium or Rwanda.

Since I took up my responsibilities in mid 2014, the ties between Rwanda and Belgium have been strengthened. The different visits to Rwanda of Ministers Didier Reynders and Alexander De Croo and the visitis of Minister Louise Mushikiwabo forge and illustrate the strength and quality of those ties.

You can follow the activities of the Belgian Ministers through www.diplomatie.belgium.be or Facebook, Twitter (@MFABelgium, @dreynders, @alexanderdecroo) or Flickr for photos.

My objective remains to continue to build and strengthen the relations between Belgium and Rwanda, politically and economically, but also between the people, the citizens of Rwanda and Belgium. We pay attention to sports (both cycling federation cooperate), culture and the creative economy.

Last year was well stocked on activities in that field. We supported the Kigali Fashion Week, with the participation of the Antwerp designer Ann Buermans, the Ubumuntu Theater Festival, with the production “Body Revolution” of Toneelhuis, Antwerpen, the EANT dance festival, with the Brussels choreographer and dancer Jan Wallyn and last but not least two beautiful and forceful concerts by pianist Jef Neve, each time accompanied by local musicians, well established or upcoming.

The UCI race “Tour of Rwanda”, in November, was in 2016 widely observed by international media and by UCI board member and Belgian Cycling federation president Tom Van Damme.

An alumni-network of Rwandese having studied in Belgium was created.

Through our facebookpage (Embassy of Belgium in Kigali) and my Twitteraccount (@ArnoutPauwels) you will find up to date information on our activities.

The embassy team continues to pay very high attention to a quality service in consular and visa-affairs.

Belgium makes a major effort in partnering with Rwanda on socio-economic development, not only at the level of the federal government, but also NGOs, cities and villages and citizens or professional initiatives. The embassy pays particular attention to women’s rights and empowerment.

My strong and enthusiastic team hopes to meet many of you during one of our activities.

Do not hesitate to get in touch with us. We are there for you.

Arnout Pauwels
